Shakefest and Gach Duine – in aid of the Gach Duine Ethiopian Development project
Charleville Castle hosts Shakefest – dedicated to Bellydance, dance, arts and culture workshops as well as a Peace Concert every year at the end of May – originally conceptualized by Claire Tobin – as well, smaller ‘Shake-ette’ workshop days are hosted by Charleville Castle throughout the year. This year Shakefest hosts Gach Duine. An organisation set up by Waterford girl Rachel O’Brien earlier this year, they are trying to raise €30,000 to build a Community Centre for abused women and displaced children in the village of Adaba. There are many women in the village of Adaba who have suffered from genital mutilation, rape and abduction and yet in spite of these unimaginable violations many women are still faced with the responsibility of caring for 10-12 children.
Rachel and a small number of volunteers who include Grace Kearney and another Waterford lady Claire Griffin will head over to Ethiopia this summer to begin work on the project.
