International Dance Instructor – Meghana Rao

Dr Meghana is an art enthusiast. She started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 5 and has been practising dance ever since. She has given more than 500 stage performances across several parts of India and Ireland. She presented her ‘Arangetram’ in the year 2008 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru, India.

Meghana has secured a distinction in her Bharatanatyam certification exams held by the Karnataka State Government. She was also a dance examiner at the Karnataka Dance Examination Board. She is a freelance Bharatanatyam performer, teacher and choreographer.

Indian Classical – General Level

Morning Room, Charleville Castle €25

Introduction to Indian classical dance with key focus on Bharatanatyam. The practical session includes basic footwork, hand gestures, eye and
neck movements, facial expressions, basic make-up and dressing. Dance to one
complete song/dance drama. Explanation of mythological characters involved in the
dance drama.


6th of June 2020 | 4-5:30pm 

Indian Classical Dance (Intermediate Level- Bharatanatyam)

Ballroom, Charleville Castle €20

The dance texts Abhinaya darpana, and Natyashastra are used as theoretical basis for classical dance theory.
Students will learn hastas and viniyogas (hand gestures and their utility), eye movements, neck movements and navarasa (nine types of emotions).
 Practical dance session: One complete dance item with intermediate difficultydepicting the nuances of Nritta (presentation of rhythm through graceful movement of the body) and Nritya (dance involving acting techniques) of Bharatanatyam.
